October 31 2009  Final Update

I suspected this to go smoothly, but I was wrong. I so failed this day like I'm not even trying to quit. Me and my family went to the cemetery to visit our loved ones, before we left the house I'm sure I'm not going to smoke today. After that visit we went home, I allowed my self to smoke one. I said to myself "It's okay... I'll just take a note of this, this is a good addition to my blog" so I logged the time.

here's the log:
6:00pm - Before Dinner
6:15pm - After Dinner
6:32pm - While in a conversation
7:12pm - While in a conversation

funny, I was supposed to allow myself to smoke ONE, but the pack was right in front of me. Since 6:00pm that night I was continuously arguing with myself on whether to smoke or not. and you know what? I failed every single time, every time I say "no" there's always some excuse for me to say "yes" like:
"c'mon smoke one you did a good job this morning"
"you just ate, It would feel much better when you smoke after eating"
"smoke another, you can write about this later"
"you have six sticks left in your pack, why don't just smoke this pack and make this your last"
I have more but that'll do...

The worst part is I was invited to a casual drinking with my cousins, while buying my beer the saleslady asked me "anything else" so I stopped to think and again had an argument and again I failed, I then bought a half pack just to survive the night with beer...

even now while I'm writing this blog I'm still trying to convince myself not to smoke, and my other self is telling me that "you can't do this cold turkey stuff, try cutting it down slowly after a pack, then half a pack, the five sticks, then one."
I always say no to myself, but every time I say "no" I feel the urge to smoke is getting stronger.

Now I ask myself should I continue with this cold turkey? or should continue smoking and gradually reduce my cigarette consumption?
And what's happening? Is my purpose for quitting not strong Enough? and I'm having doubts already... in just two days?!
oh yes quitting is a lot harder than I thought

anyway I'll have to think about it... I can do this!

The Ritual/Rule - When is the best time to smoke. I've had this ritual (and I think everyone does) In this text you'll see how often I smoke.

1. After eating (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner)
2. While Drinking (Beer/Alcohol, Juice, Coffee and Water)
3. While watching television (Movies, Sitcoms, TV-Series and while drinking see no.2 )
4. After Masturbating (What? who doesn't?!?)
5. Before traveling to any destination (Right before I leave the house. Any Destination)
6. After arriving to any destination (Right after I step out of a car, bus, jeep, tricycle)
7. Before i take a bath
8. After I take a bath
9. Before I do smothing
10. Whenever I think about smoking, I smoke.
I could go for more but that'll be enough :)

[ I can smell someone smoking outside... so inviting... It's like calling to me...]

Another Idea! Since I want to be like hulk... (haha, I really do!) why don't every time I think about smoking, I'll do ab-crunches? this will serve as a punishment and a reward at the same time right?!? Maybe this'll work!
about 100 repetitions for each time I crave for it. It's just like in military where you do 10 push-ups for not following orders. hmm... this is great! and I will keep track of the date and time I made a ab-crunches

My throat is getting worse... I barely speak... I can't sleep from my continuous cough... damn asthma. yes I figured i have asthma, I had this since I was a kid. It feels like having a cat inside your lungs, and my throat (this is what I hate the most) whenever I cough It feels my throat is being lacerated...
which makes me want to answer this question "you know you have a weak lungs, then why smoke?"

yes, that question. It's like a kid asking me about what do I like about it. And I always end up answering "Its not good, don't try it or you'll be sorry" It seems I'm giving a good advice but I'm really setting a bad example, I know smoking is not good yet I still go for it - Maybe that's what every kid see in me whenever they ask about my hobby. But still i'ts their choice to make, I just did my part. (whatever that is)

So why did I smoke?
a couple of reasons:

It's Fun. - It's fun to make smoke circles, bridge (its like making a bridge of smoke from your mouth to your nose,  I even timed myself while smoking the record was 5 mins a stick. (also fun when I see someone do it)

It's Relaxing. - It is, whenever I'm stressed at work or at home, I give myself one stick or stress release. after that I feel better already.

Kill Time - whenever I'm Bored or If I have nothing to do, of If I'm waiting for something to happen, I smoke.

Reward - whenever I feel good about something I've done, or when I finish a hard task. I smoke, and it gives me a feeling of a pat in the back like "good job" (oh yes I deserve this)

[ NOTE: I LIGHTED A CIGARETTE - 10:19 am (sorry!!!! lemme just finish this stick and then it's over)
my first craving and i already failed... no worries. This will be my last EVER. I guess when trying to quit and then explaining how good smoking feels, really activates those cravings. I can't even Inhale the smoke because my sore throat, and I cough whenever I try to... Damn. Cool Idea! I'll just let it burn there on my ashtray, like Incense... what am I doing?!? (putting my cig out 10:27) ]

Saturday, Oct 31 2009 -- 10:27 - Quit Smoking (round 2)
Okay back to my reasons:

Presence - I want to look older when I was young and as you can see (if you can see my pic) I have this bad ass first impression to people. I mean when I was young I want people to see that I'm mature, grown up and I want to Imply to them "I'm Untouchable" or In our language "Astig", which is "Tigas" in reverse. In English "Solid"

"In" feeling - The feeling of being a part of a group, It's easy for me to socialize when you have common smoking habits with other people. I remembered when I was in college the one way that I got to know everyone was because I smoke, every lunch breaks, In between subjects and before going home there's always someone or a group of people outside smoking. Where automatically you get accepted because you smoke, shared a cig, or offered a lighter.

I'm Sick, I have Cough and a Sore Throat and Ive had it. Starting Today Friday, October 30 2009 at 5:00 PM. I'm Done with smoking.

My Reasons:
I wan't to know How it really feels.
I want to test myself If I can do it.
How long can I last without it.
This may sound crazy or stupid and Funny to you... but I really want to be like hulk in this picture:

Magnificent right? (Impossible to me), but still for that I'm willing to give up one of my addictive hobby.

Same Day, October 21, 2009 6:21 PM

an hour has passed, I'm still not craving for it... I guess it's because of my sore throat, my throat feels like sand paper...

anyway, I've decided to up the ante a little bit, now my goal is to:
Quit Smoking
and Quit Smoking without telling anyone hahaha
This for me will make everything interesting. I guess I'll just have to make some excuse whenever I'm being asked, and yes of course they will ask, I smoke a pack or two per day. Plus It would be fun for me to write about.

I've made some research on Bad Habits, They say that it takes 21 days to create a habit. I also read about how to break them I must:
1. Have a Purpose
2. Gather some basic background. like:
How much time did you spend keeping this habit?
How much did this habit cost you?
3. Fast forward. Imagining yourself without that smoking monkey behind me.
4. Keep track of your habit. (In this case... my blog)
5. Make a commitment .
6. Think it through. before you starts, think through the possible challenges that you will face.
7. Tell Someone!. Okay, Fine I'll tell 1 Person.
8. Begin
9. Don't let a slip or fail. (what?!? not even a little puff? or in my case "good job! here's a free puff card")

(Good luck to me!)

The following are the benefits of quitting smoking that follow are in accordance to the timeline before which the smoker has quitted smoking like:

After 20 minutes - Smoking causes increase in blood pressure. This high blood pressure is very harmful as it increases the danger of heart attack. But as soon as we quit smoking the risk minimizes and blood pressure rate becomes normal.

After 8 hours - Nicotine and carbon monoxide levels in the blood are greatly reduced; oxygen levels in the blood return to normal. The chances of a heart attack start to fall.

After 10 hours - Carbon monoxide (CO) level becomes half after 10 hours of quitting smoking. Carbon monoxide is one of the major pollutants that produce bad effects on cognitive skills and health. It also affects the oxygen, which is one of the most vital substances, which are necessary for survival. When the carbon monoxide level is high, it decreases intake of blood from lungs, which can lead to many serious problems. We increase our energy levels by smoothing the passage of oxygen as we restrict the carbon monoxide level by quitting smoking.

After 24 hours - If you successfully completed 24 hours, it is a marvelous starting, for the chain smokers that provides them strong bearing power, less level of tiredness after exercise and quick recovery.
After 48 Hours - When move to 48 hours from one whole day, it gives us a totally new experience as nicotine is removed from their body, which earlier has resulted in bad side effects by causing stomachache, vomiting and it also develops the probability of hypothermia.

After 72 hours - Bronchial tubes begin to relax; energy levels increase. Breathing becomes easier.

After 2-22 weeks - After 2 to 22 weeks of quitting smoking you will get rid of bad circulation and also of numerous other disorders like slow cold feet, skin healing, peripheral vascular disease (PVT), and Raynaud’s disease.
After 1 year - After you quit smoking for 1 year, you will reduce the risk of heart attack to half. According to the studies conducted in U.K, smoking results in around 20,000 deaths due to heart diseases (Smoking and Heart Diseases).
After 10 years - After reducing the danger of heart attack our good habit of quitting smoking results in minimizing the danger of lung cancer to half.

After 15 years - After 15 years person who once was chain smoker leads a healthy life as a normal man who has never smoked. At last the good habit has repaid back.

(but... seriously, 15 years to regain everything ?!?) Okay I'll put everything to the test.
